How to Make the Most of the Time Between Points in Tennis
'Preparing yourself both mentally and physically between points
is crucial for the person who takes tennis seriously. Your concentration will
improve as well as your competitive instinct. Everybody's routine will vary,
depending upon the type of player, and here are a few things to think about.
- STEP 1: Control your
breathing. Inhale through your nose; exhale through your mouth, especially
after a strenuous point.
- STEP 2: Determine
strategy based on game score.
- STEP 3: Walk with
a confident posture (no 'hang-dog' look).
- STEP 4: Dance up
on your toes to return the serve; take your time setting up to serve.
- STEP 5: Develop an
immediate focus after the point and before the next. Example: bounce the
ball, fix your shirt, check your strings. Do this to block out other distractions.
Tips
- Work on a positive
state of mind, and the physical component of your play will follow.
- Establishing your
between point routine will give you added focus and relax you.
