How to Make the Most of the Changeover Break in Tennis

'The changeover is a key time when a player can focus in on what he or she has been doing right and/or wrong. This is also a time to rejuvenate the body and mind to play better throughout the next two games

  • STEP 1: Get to the chair or bench as quickly as possible.
  • STEP 2: Develop a relaxation technique, like controlling your breathing or focusing on an object.
  • STEP 3: Hydrate with water or your favorite sports drink.
  • STEP 4: Relax the major muscle groups.
  • STEP 5: Towel off your forehead and arms.
  • STEP 6: Focus in on strategy for the next two games.
  • STEP 7: Walk back out on the court with a positive gait that exudes confidence.

Tips

  • Think about changing your shirt.
  • Have a piece of fruit or an energy bar to chew on.
  • Keep a positive attitude even if things aren't going well at first.
