Attendance

Legal responsibility for school attendance rests with the parent/guardian or with the student in the event a student is an emancipated minor or a student not covered by the compulsory attendance laws. Any student with habitual truancy may be referred to Kenosha County Juvenile Intake Services.

School Arrival:         All students will be required to use the North or West doors
(The North doors will be available prior to 7:30 a.m. and after 2:55 p.m.)

Parents may not drop off students in staff parking lot. Students may not be in the academic hallways before 7:15 a.m. or after 3:10 p.m. unless they have authorized business in those areas. Students other than those who have official business such as being involved in after school class, detention, teacher assistance, club, athletic, or other such activities may not remain in any area of the building including the Commons and Fieldhouse areas after 3:10 p.m. Failure to cooperate is a serious violation of school regulations. The same is true during the lunch periods with the exception of the passing times. Students not cooperating with these restrictions are subject to disciplinary action including suspension.

  1. Students are expected to be on time to school/class. When a student arrives to school after 7:30 a.m., that student must enter at the West entrance.
  2. These students will be expected to sign in at this entrance to receive a pass to class.

Students arriving after the completion of the first block must sign in at the Attendance Office.   The late pass indicates the time the student officially arrived at school and whether the tardiness is excused or unexcused.

TARDINESS

Tardy to School: The principal or dean will decide if the reason a student gives for being tardy or late is valid. If the reason is judged invalid, remedial action will be taken. After repeated offenses, the student's parent/guardian will be notified by phone and/or in writing to alert them to the problem. The students and the parent/guardian share the responsibility for preventing student tardiness.

Tardy to Class: The teacher will determine if the reasons for the delay to class are valid. If the reason is judged invalid, the teacher will admit the student to class and take remedial action to prevent future tardiness (conference with the parent, detention after school, phone call to parent/guardian, etc.). If these techniques fail to solve the problem, the student may be sent to the school office with a written referral from the teacher, and the principal or dean will take appropriate remedial action.

The consequence hereafter will depend upon the number of referrals for tardiness. A parent/guardian conference will be required for excessive tardiness.

Loitering/Hall Wandering

Students are expected to be in assigned areas based on their schedule of classes. Not being where assigned is a disruption to the learning climate of the school. Consequences for loitering will range from in-school-suspension (ISS), out-of-school suspension (OSS), loss of hall pass privileges or a combination of any or all of these. Repeated violations will require a parent conference and the police may be called when students fail to cooperate with school authorities.

Class Releases

Students who have official school/class release such as: Youth Options Program (YOP), Student Partnership, Senior/Junior releases, and Individual Education Plan releases, etc, are not allowed in the building during their release time without permission from an appropriate school official.   Students who are found in the building during their release time are subject to disciplinary action such as: out-of-school suspension and/or a trespassing citation may be issued.
